Archelle Georgiou, MD

Physician, Healthcare Industry Expert, Reporter and Author

Archelle Georgiou is a physician, healthcare industry expert, reporter, and author. But colleagues think of her as a lightning rod for change. As a senior executive and the Chief Medical Officer of UnitedHealthcare (1995-2007), she dismantled the company’s pre-certification policies that hassled patients and physicians. Since 2008, she has used Georgiou Consulting as her business platform to coordinate a diverse portfolio of relationships, clients, and projects that ultimately improve health and the healthcare system. Archelle is adjunct faculty and Executive in Residence at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management. She has covered over 1200 medical topics during her weekly segments on KSTP-TV and consistently encourages viewers to use their voice when making medical decisions and advocating for themselves. Georgiou developed the CARES Model, a five-step approach that consumers can use to make healthcare decisions that balance the best medical care with their personal, professional, social, and economic preferences, and in February 2017, she published her first book, Health Care Choices: 5 Steps to Getting the Medical Care You Want and Need(Rowman & Littlefield). Dr. Georgiou earned her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and is board-certified in Internal Medicine.
